A year before the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, a drawing for the World Cup finals was held here in Cape Town.
To get a taste of the thrill of pairing, fans from South Africa as well as football freaks from around the world flocked to a fan festival on Cape Town's main street "Long Street".
The number was said to have reached 150,000. I visited this orthodox Irish bar and restaurant along Long Street two days after the drawing, and there was a live British Premiership broadcast that day, and the excitement was as great as the drawing.
In the south, where Cape Town is located, rugby is more popular than football, but football is gaining in popularity regardless of race, partly because of the influence of the recent World Cup held in the country.
The Premier League's "Everton vs. Tottenham" was broadcast live on that day as well, and the staff was so focused on the game that they did not come to take orders (laughs). On another TV station, a digest of the draw for the World Cup finals, which took place the day before yesterday, was broadcast again and again, and it was impressive that the draw for Group A, which included South Africa, was repeated many times.
In addition, the best teams were broadcasted in a digest, but the Japanese lottery scenes were blown away and cut off without my realizing it ・・・・。

As might be expected of an authentic Irish restaurant, they serve not only the usual Guinness beer but also beef stewed in Guinness beer.
Personally, I recommend "Guinness beef pie" which is beef stew made with Guinness beer and topped with freshly baked pie. They also have standard dishes such as curry and salad that suit our Japanese tastes, so it is attractive that you can order from a wide range of choices.

"You have to be on Long Street to be in Cape Town." said the local taxi driver. We enjoyed a sports bar along Long Street!
